How to Run a Pick'em Pool for Your Rec League or Local Team
Some of the most fun pools are for leagues nobody else is following: the Thursday night rec league, the local high school, a club team, or a brand-new pro league. The players and their families care about every game, which makes picks personal.
Getting the schedule in
The hard part used to be typing in the schedule. Now you can upload the spreadsheet the league already sends out, a PDF, or even a screenshot, or paste a link to the league's schedule page. Sports Picker reads it and shows you the games before adding anything, so you can fix a typo first. If you save the link, it checks for newly posted games every day.
Entering scores
Without a TV feed, someone has to enter the final scores. It takes a few seconds per game from the pool page, and the standings update right away. Ask a parent or team manager at each game to text you the score.
Formats that work
A straight pick'em pool is the easiest. A survivor pool works well for a short season, and score predictions are fun when the teams play each other often.
Getting people in
Print the join flyer with a QR code and put it up at the field or the rink, or drop the join code in the team group chat.
